Bopparder Hamm

Bopparder Hamm is a steep, vineyard-covered stretch of riverbank on the Middle Rhine near the town of Boppard in Rhineland-Palatinate, noted for its terraced slopes and prominent river bend. The site is an important local viticultural area within the Rhine valley.

Hikers and wine tourists come for terraced vineyards that descend directly to the river and for panoramic views across the Rhine meander; the area is traversed by sections of the Rheinsteig long-distance trail. The slopes are visibly planted in rows and are used for commercial wine production, especially Rhine-region varieties.

Viticulture on the steep slopes of the Rhine around Boppard has a long history, with terraces and vineyard cultivation evolving over centuries as part of the Middle Rhine wine tradition. Agricultural use and management of the slopes have continued into the present day.

Located on the right/east bank of the Rhine adjacent to the town of Boppard, the Bopparder Hamm sits in the Rhine Gorge roughly 20-30 kilometers south of Koblenz. The landscape is dominated by the river valley and steep, cultivated slopes.
