Bollons Island
Island Uninhabited island in New Zealand's subantarctic islands
How to Get to Bollons Island #
Bollons Island is part of New Zealand’s remote Antipodes/subantarctic island groups and has no regular passenger service or airstrip. It can only be reached by sea as part of a private, scientific or expedition voyage departing from mainland New Zealand; landings (when permitted) are made by small boat/Zodiac from the visiting vessel. There are no roads or public transport on the island.
Tips for Visiting Bollons Island #
- Access to Bollons Island is by sea as part of licensed expedition cruises or scientific visits only; plan through an operator that runs official landings and make arrangements well in advance of the austral summer season (December-March).
- Expect strict biosecurity and landing controls-New Zealand's subantarctic islands are protected, and operators enforce cleaning and quarantine procedures, limited landing sites, and small-group landings to protect wildlife.
- If you are on a cruise itinerary, listen to briefings from the expedition staff about where and when landings are permitted-wandering beyond designated routes is prohibited to protect breeding birds and fragile vegetation.
Best Time to Visit Bollons Island #
If attempting a visit, go in the austral summer (December-March) when sea and weather conditions are most favorable for expedition landings.
