Bohoniki Mosque

Bohoniki Mosque is a historic wooden mosque in the village of Bohoniki in Podlaskie Voivodeship in north-eastern Poland, associated with the local Lipka Tatar Muslim community. The present mosque building dates largely to the 19th century and represents one of Poland’s surviving Tatar religious sites.

The complex is compact, comprising the wooden prayer building and an adjacent cemetery with traditional Tatar gravestones and markers. The site is visited for its cultural-historical significance and as one of the continuity points of Tatar settlement in the region.

The mosque has roots in the Lipka Tatar presence in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth; the existing wooden structure dates from the 1800s and has been preserved and maintained by the local community since. It continues to serve as a place of worship and community memory.

Bohoniki lies in a rural part of Podlaskie Voivodeship in north-eastern Poland, near the town of Sokółka and within a landscape of fields and small forests.
