Bláhnjúkur is a volcanic cone in the Landmannalaugar area of Iceland’s Southern Highlands, noted for its blue-black slopes and panoramic summit views. It sits amid rhyolite mountains, lava fields and geothermal ground that make the surrounding landscape colourful and varied.
The peak is a popular day-hike objective; the path to the summit is steep in sections but short, giving walkers clear views over the highland rhyolite plateaus and the surrounding lava and hot-spring terrain.
The cone formed from volcanic activity associated with Iceland’s central volcanism and lies within a region used for hiking and highland trekking. It is a well-known feature within the Landmannalaugar valley system.
