Bistcho Lake

Bistcho Lake is a large, remote lake in northwestern Alberta, Canada, set within boreal forest and wetland country. The lake is notable for its size relative to the region and for supporting northern wildlife and wetland ecosystems.

The area offers wilderness experiences rather than developed tourism facilities, with opportunities for fishing, birdwatching and observing boreal wetland habitats; access is by long roads or floatplane depending on season and conditions. Shorelines and shallow bays support waterfowl and other wetland species.

The lake and surrounding lands have long been part of the traditional territories of Indigenous peoples of the region and have been used for subsistence and seasonal activities. In recent decades the area has been subject to conservation interest and land-use discussions because of its ecological values.

Bistcho Lake lies in the northwest of Alberta, in the boreal zone near the Northwest Territories border, in a sparsely populated landscape dominated by lakes, wetlands and forest.
