Bildmuseet is a contemporary art museum associated with Umeå University in northern Sweden, located on the east bank of the Ume River. It presents exhibitions of contemporary art, photography and visual culture, with a focus on experimental and international programs.

The museum moved into a new purpose-built riverside building in 2012 which expanded its exhibition capacity and public facilities. It operates as a university museum with educational programs, lectures and temporary shows that change regularly.

Located on Umeå Arts Campus beside the Ume River. From Umeå central station, it’s a 15-20 minute walk across the River or a short bus ride (local buses toward Universitetsområdet). Limited on‑site parking is available; cycling is common in summer.

• Enter from the Umeå University side (across the pedestrian bridge) to avoid queues for the panoramic elevator.
• Don't skip the roof terrace - the view over the Ume River is especially striking at sunset and features rotating contemporary installations.
• Check the schedule for artist talks; Bildmuseet often programs late‑night openings and experimental film evenings.
