Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park

Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park is a state-managed historic house museum in Chico, California, built for pioneer and politician John Bidwell in the late 1860s. The property is an example of high-style Victorian residential architecture in northern California.

The mansion is a multi-story Victorian residence open to the public on guided tours that show restored period rooms, household furnishings and interpretive exhibits about the Bidwell family and local 19th-century history. The site also includes outbuildings that illustrate domestic and estate operations.

John Bidwell commissioned and lived in the house; it remained associated with the Bidwell family before becoming preserved as a historic property. Today it is operated by California State Parks for education and public visitation.

The mansion sits close to downtown Chico on The Esplanade, within easy walking distance of Chico’s central business district and civic core.
