Białowieża National Park in Podlaskie Voivodeship protects a core area of the ancient Białowieża Forest and the free‑ranging European bison population. The Polish park was formally established in the early 20th century and remains a key refuge for old‑growth woodland in Europe.
Trails and guided walks lead through mixed deciduous forest with centuries‑old oak and lime trees, marked observation points and wildlife hides for bird and mammal watching. The park sits on Poland’s eastern border with Belarus near the village of Białowieża, in northeast Poland, about 60 km southeast of the regional city of Białystok. The landscape is lowland forest interspersed with meadows and floodplain habitat.
