Bethsaida is an archaeological and biblical site on the northeastern shore of the Sea of Galilee in Israel, identified in traditions as a fishing village mentioned in the New Testament.

Excavations have revealed settlement remains, evidence of fishing activity and public architecture from Hellenistic to Byzantine periods; visitors encounter ruins, excavation areas and interpretive displays. The site is of particular interest for its links to late ancient village life on the lake and for its biblical associations.

The site was occupied over many centuries and shows material culture from the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine eras; it is referenced in historical and religious texts as a centre for fishing and local trade. Archaeological investigation in the 20th and 21st centuries has aimed to clarify its chronology and its relationship to the biblical place-name.

Situated on the northeastern shore of the Sea of Galilee, Bethsaida lies within Israel’s Northern District and is accessible by road from regional towns and from routes around the lake.

The site is usually reached by car from Tiberias or from the Golan Heights via local roads; there is parking near the site and a short walk from the parking area to the excavations. Public buses that serve towns around the Sea of Galilee can get you to nearby villages, from which taxis or short local transfers reach the site.

• Visit in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat and combine the site with nearby nature reserves for a full-day outing - the archaeological remains are best explored when temperatures are cooler.
• Enter via the marked access for Bethsaida/et-Tell and look for the excavated synagogue foundations and ancient fish-processing features that many passersby miss; local signage and the small visitor area provide orientation.
