Besh Barmag Mountain

Besh Barmag is a solitary limestone rock formation on the coastal plain of Azerbaijan’s Siyazan District near the Caspian Sea. The name translates as “five fingers,” reflecting the formation’s characteristic finger-like peaks.

The outcrop stands prominently above the surrounding flatlands and serves as a local landmark and place of traditional reverence; it is often visited by locals and travelers passing the coastal highway. The rock is accessible from nearby roads and is visible for many kilometres across the coastal plain.

The formation has long been associated with local legends and is treated in places as a sacred or culturally significant site, attracting visitors for short walks and photography rather than long climbs. It sits within the low-lying landscape close to the Caspian coast and is part of the district landscape rather than an alpine feature.

Geographically it lies in Siyazan District near Azerbaijan’s eastern coastline along the Caspian Sea, north of the greater Baku metropolitan area.
