Berry Pomeroy Castle is a ruined medieval and Tudor-era castle near the village of Berry Pomeroy in Devon, England, notable as a late medieval stronghold with substantial Tudor domestic work. Much of the site survives as atmospheric ruined walls and towers set on sloping ground above the River Cary valley.
The site features substantial curtain walls, a prominent gatehouse and visible remains of a Great Hall and later Tudor domestic ranges, all set within two concentric baileys. Walks around the walls provide views over the surrounding farmland and the lower River Dart valley; the ruined courts and staircases illustrate different building phases.
Origins are medieval, and the site was substantially rebuilt and adapted in the late medieval and Tudor periods; it fell into disuse and partial ruin in the post-medieval era. Ownership and alterations over centuries produced the layered medieval fortification with later domestic Tudor additions that survive today.
The castle stands beside the village of Berry Pomeroy in South Devon, roughly a few kilometres east of the market town of Totnes, set on sloping ground above the local river valley.
