Berici Hills Mountains

The Berici Hills (Colli Berici) are a compact limestone hill range in the Veneto region of northern Italy, located southwest of the city of Vicenza. They form a distinct upland area rising above the surrounding plain.

The area offers a network of walking and cycling routes, wooded slopes, and small vineyards and agricultural land on lower slopes. Scattered historic villas, roadside chapels, and local country roads provide access and points of interest for day visitors.

The hills have been settled and cultivated since antiquity and contain historic rural buildings and agricultural terraces that reflect long-term human use of the upland landscape. Local stone from the hills has been used in regional construction.

The Berici Hills sit immediately southwest of Vicenza in Veneto, forming a short ridge that separates the city plain from lower valleys and countryside to the south and west.

Regional buses run from Vicenza’s main bus station to towns around the hills-walking from those village stops to trails typically takes 10-30 minutes depending on the stop.

• Visit the Berici Hills in spring or early autumn when temperatures are milder and the landscape shows wildflowers and autumn colours; early morning or late afternoon light also gives the best photography and fewer people on the trails.
• Instead of the busiest car parks, pick a small village trailhead to start your walk-local paths link the ridge viewpoints and vineyards and tend to be much quieter than the main marked circuits.
• Include a stop at a local agriturismo or small winery on the way back: many producers open for tastings and this is an efficient way to taste regional wines without adding extra driving between dispersed sites.
