Bergamasque Alps
Mountains Mountain range in Lombardy with steep limestone peaks
The Bergamasque Alps in Lombardy offer limestone peaks, high valleys and alpine pastures; activities include hiking, via ferratas and winter skiing from small mountain towns.
The Bergamasque Alps, commonly called the Alpi Orobie, are a mountain group in Lombardy in northern Italy forming part of the Southern Alps. The range rises sharply from the Bergamo plain and includes peaks that exceed 3,000 metres as well as deep glacial valleys.
Outdoor activities dominate visitor interest-hiking, alpine climbing and winter sports on accessible ridges and high pastures, with established mountain huts and marked trails across the range. The area is prized for its limestone peaks, panoramic ridges and transition from cultivated lowlands to high alpine terrain.
The range developed through alpine uplift and glacial sculpting and contains distinct valleys such as Val Seriana and Val Brembana which provide principal access routes into the high country. Local towns at the mountain front serve as bases for excursions and conservation of traditional mountain pastures.
