Beomeosa is a major Buddhist temple complex on the slopes of Geumjeongsan in northeastern Busan, South Korea, founded during the Silla period in 678. The site serves as one of Busan’s principal temple complexes and remains an active place of worship.
The complex is arranged along forested trails and stone stairways and contains multiple halls, shrines and subsidiary buildings set across the mountainside, with a focal main Buddha hall and ceremonial spaces. Many visitors come for architecture, religious festivals and the temple-stay programs rather than a single monument.
Founded in 678, the temple has been rebuilt and repaired several times over the centuries after damage from wars and fires, and it continues to function as a living monastic community. Architectural elements visible today reflect reconstructions from later Korean dynasties.
