The mountain has steep slopes and pronounced corries and is commonly climbed from valley trailheads in a day. Routes include steep ascents that require good navigation and mountain fitness under winter conditions.
Historically the mountain formed part of local estate and grazing land and later became a recreational objective as mountaineering and hillwalking developed in Scotland. It is often grouped with nearby peaks on multi-summit walks.
