City District in Mazovia, Poland, part of Warsaw
A western district of Warsaw, Bemowo offers Fort Bema parkland, cycling routes, post‑war apartment blocks and a small craft-beer and weekend-market scene; visitors come to green spaces and offbeat local cafés away from Old Town crowds.
Why Visit Bemowo? #
Green spaces and military history shape Bemowo’s appeal for visitors who prefer quieter city districts. Fort Bema Park offers walking routes through preserved fortifications, while nearby modern boulevards host craft-beer pubs and family cafes. Annual neighborhood events and veterans’ commemorations reveal layers of local history and community life. The combination of parklands, accessible tram links to central Warsaw and informal dining makes it an easy, offbeat base.

How to Get to Bemowo
Bemowo is a north-western district of Warsaw; most visitors arrive via Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) or the secondary Modlin Airport (WMI), or by rail into Warszawa Centralna / Warszawa Zachodnia. From those arrival points, Bemowo is easily reached by Warsaw's ZTM buses/trams, regional rail connections to Zachodnia, or taxis/ride-hailing.
Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW): Warsaw’s main airport is Chopin (WAW), ~10-12 km southeast of Bemowo. The airport is served by the Szybka Kolej Miejska/PKP rail link and numerous ZTM buses. The SKM/rail link to the city centre takes about 20-25 minutes to Warszawa Śródmieście/Warszawa Centralna and uses the standard Warsaw public-transport fare (single ZTM ticket ~4.40 PLN); bus 175 or 188 to centre takes ~30-45 minutes and costs the same single ZTM ticket (4.40 PLN). Taxis and ride-hail apps (Uber/Bolt) to Bemowo typically cost roughly 35-60 PLN and take 20-40 minutes depending on traffic.
Warsaw Modlin Airport (WMI): Modlin is a secondary airport north-west of Warsaw popular with low-cost carriers. From the terminal there is a shuttle (ModlinBus and other coach operators) to Warsaw (Warszawa Zachodnia or Warszawa Centralna) taking about 40-60 minutes; fares are typically in the ~30-50 PLN range depending on operator and booking time. There’s also a short transfer to Modlin railway station and regional Koleje Mazowieckie trains into Warsaw (about 30-45 minutes to central stations); regional train fares are usually in the low double-digits (roughly ~10-25 PLN).
Train: Major rail gateways are Warszawa Centralna and Warszawa Zachodnia, both well served by PKP Intercity (long distance) and regional operators (Koleje Mazowieckie, SKM). Intercity tickets into Warsaw vary widely by route and class (short domestic journeys often from ~30-100+ PLN); regional commuter trains from nearby towns commonly cost ~10-30 PLN. From Centralna or Zachodnia you can reach Bemowo by bus/tram or short taxi ride in roughly 15-35 minutes depending on which station you arrive at and traffic.
Bus: Long-distance coach operators (FlixBus, PolskiBus/other carriers) mostly use Warszawa Zachodnia / Dworzec Zachodni or terminal points near the city centre. One-way coach fares vary (commonly ~20-80 PLN depending on distance and advance booking). Local ZTM buses connect Zachodnia/Centralna with Bemowo - expect 15-40 minutes on a local bus depending on route and traffic; local single tickets are the standard ZTM fare (~4.40 PLN for a 75-minute ticket).
How to Get Around Bemowo
Bemowo is best navigated by a combination of ZTM buses (for local coverage) and tram/metro for faster cross-city links; commuter rail is handy for arrivals to Warszawa Zachodnia. For convenience and evenings, ride-hailing or taxis fill the gaps - expect to use a bus+metro combination for most trips.
- Metro (M1 & M2) (4.40 PLN) - Warsaw's metro network (lines M1 and M2) is fast for cross-city travel but does not cover all of Bemowo internally. The nearest M2 stops (for much of Bemowo) are around Wola - e.g. Rondo Daszyńskiego and Księcia Janusza on the western branch - and then you'll usually change to a bus or tram. Metro trips are frequent, clean, and avoid traffic; use it for quick access to the city centre and transfer to local buses for the last mile.
- Tram (4.40 PLN) - Trams serve Wola and routes on the edges of Bemowo; they are reliable for cross-neighbourhood travel and run frequently during the day. If your destination is near a tram corridor use the tram to reach a major interchange and then a short bus or walk into Bemowo. Trams are part of the ZTM network-buy a single ticket before boarding.
- Bus (ZTM) (4.40 PLN) - Local buses are the backbone of public transport inside Bemowo - they reach residential streets, metro/tram interchanges and major hubs like Warszawa Zachodnia. Night buses also cover Bemowo when daytime services stop. Buses accept ZTM tickets (single 75-minute ticket ~4.40 PLN) and are generally the most practical way to get around the district.
- SKM / Regional rail (Koleje Mazowieckie) (4.40-30 PLN) - Commuter rail (SKM) and regional Koleje Mazowieckie trains connect Warsaw with surrounding towns and stop at major stations like Warszawa Zachodnia and Warszawa Gdańska. These are great when arriving from outside Warsaw (or from Modlin). For journeys inside the city some SKM services accept ZTM fares; regional fares to Warsaw from nearby towns commonly range higher and depend on operator.
- Taxi & Ride-hailing (Uber, Bolt) (15-60 PLN) - Taxis and app-based services are plentiful and useful for door-to-door trips or late-night travel when public transport is less convenient. Expect a short inner-district ride to cost roughly 15-60 PLN depending on distance and traffic; always check the app estimate before confirming. Official city taxis display a meter - for safety prefer licensed vehicles or well-known apps.
- Veturilo / Cycling (3-10 PLN) - Veturilo is Warsaw's public bike-share and there are dedicated cycle lanes on many routes; cycling is a fast option for short trips across Bemowo on sunny days. Prices depend on your subscription or rental method, but casual short trips are inexpensive; use cycle lanes and avoid busy arterials at rush hour. If you bring your own bike, many streets and parks are bike-friendly.
- Walking - Bemowo is pleasant to explore on foot for short local journeys - parks, local shops and tram/bus stops are usually within a 10-25 minute walk. Walking is often the quickest way to reach nearby amenities once you're inside a neighbourhood; bring an umbrella in changeable weather.
