Basilica of Our Lady of Luján

The Basilica of Our Lady of Luján is a neo-Gothic Roman Catholic national shrine in the city of Luján, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, and one of the country’s principal pilgrimage destinations.

It houses the venerated image of Our Lady of Luján, which is the focus of national devotion; the basilica’s large interior and twin towers accommodate thousands of visitors, especially on major feast days. The building’s neo-Gothic form and the chapel that contains the image are the site’s main attractions.

Constructed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in a Gothic revival style, the basilica became established as Argentina’s major Marian shrine and a centre for pilgrimage.

The basilica stands in the city of Luján, roughly 70 km to the west-northwest of Buenos Aires, on the town’s principal plaza and within easy reach of local transport links.
