Bario Airport

There is a single, very small passenger shelter/terminal used for check-in and waiting; facilities are minimal and designed for short regional operations with light aircraft.

No inter-terminal transfer is required; the facility is effectively a single-room building adjacent to the runway.

Air travel (short scheduled flights) and walking/road transfers are the main ways to reach the hamlet; ground access to Bario is limited and often slow.

• Flights: Short turboprop/STOL flights (usually to/from Miri) are the primary connection; expect flight times around 30-45 minutes depending on routing.
• Road: Overland access is arduous and time-consuming; local 4x4 services are used for cargo and passenger transfers when available.
• Taxis / local transport: Local arrangements or pre-booked pickup from homestays are common; no formal taxi rank.

Facilities are extremely basic and intended for short stopovers.

The Kelabit Highlands around Bario are served by village homestays and a small number of guesthouses rather than formal hotels; accommodation is typically family-run and booked in advance through local operators.

For longer layovers consider staying in Miri (flight link) where conventional hotels and airport connections are available. For Bario itself, expect simple homestays and basic facilities.
