Baptistère Saint-Jean

The Baptistère Saint-Jean in Poitiers is an early Christian baptistery with origins in the late Roman to early medieval period, making it one of the oldest surviving Christian buildings in France. The structure preserves architectural features associated with early baptismal rites and has been the subject of archaeological and historical study.

Surviving fabric includes masonry walls, an interior baptismal basin and earlier construction phases that were reused or modified in subsequent centuries. The building illustrates continuity of liturgical function and architectural adaptation from antiquity into the medieval period.
