The surviving ruins include a stone keep, curtain walls and defensive earthworks; visitors can walk around the outer courts and examine exposed masonry for views over the surrounding Speyside farmland. The ruin is compact and typically explored on foot in under an hour.
Constructed in the medieval period and altered in later centuries, the castle was held by Scottish noble families before falling into long-term ruin. It ceased to be a residence centuries ago and survives now as an archaeological and scenic ruin.
