Baiturrahim Mosque (Masjid Raya Baiturrahman) is the principal historic mosque of Banda Aceh in Aceh province, Indonesia, and is widely noted for its survival during the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.

The mosque presents the large central prayer hall, domes and minarets that define its appearance and includes an open courtyard and external porticoes. It is a focal point for visitors interested in Aceh’s religious architecture and the 2004 tsunami history.

The original mosque structure dates from the premodern period and the building has been rebuilt, enlarged and restored several times, including major 19th-century reconstruction during the colonial era and later 20th- and 21st-century repairs.

Situated in central Banda Aceh near the city centre, the mosque sits close to the coast and is a prominent landmark within the urban fabric of the city.

  • Tsunami: Survived the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and is closely associated with the city's relief and memorial history.
  • Access: Open to visitors; modest dress and respect for prayer times are normally expected inside the mosque compound.
