Baba is a mountain massif in southern North Macedonia whose highest peak, Pelister, reaches approximately 2,601 m. The area forms Pelister National Park, one of the country’s oldest protected areas, and is known for its alpine landscapes.

The massif includes small glacial lakes, alpine meadows and stands of the Balkan endemic Macedonian pine (Pinus peuce). Trails and mountain huts provide access for hiking and nature visits in summer and winter activities in colder months.

The mountain has been used historically for seasonal pasture and more recently for recreation and conservation as part of national park management.

Geographically it rises above the Bitola and Pelagonia plain in the south of the country, with the town of Bitola the nearest major urban centre.

  • Peak and biodiversity: Highest summit in the massif is Pelister at about 2,601 m, within Pelister National Park, noted for glacial lakes and the endemic Macedonian pine (Molika).
  • Recreation and trails: Popular for hiking and winter recreation, with established trails and viewpoints over the surrounding Pelagonia plain and Bitola region.
