Azov–Syvash National Nature Park

Azov-Syvash National Nature Park is a protected area in Kherson Oblast in southern Ukraine that conserves coastal, lagoon and steppe landscapes along the Sea of Azov and the Syvash lagoon system. The park preserves a variety of saline wetlands, reedbeds and open steppe.

The area is an important stopover and wintering zone for migratory waterbirds and supports specialised salt-adapted plants. Management focuses on habitat protection, monitoring of bird populations and limited nature-based recreation.

Geographically the park occupies low-lying coastal terrain on the northern and western margins of the Syvash and along parts of the Azov coastline in Kherson Oblast.

• Wetland and steppe conservation: The park protects a mosaic of saline lagoons, reedbeds and steppe habitats important for migratory waterbirds and wintering populations.

What to See #

• Syvash lagoons: The Syvash lagoons are a large complex of shallow, brackish to hypersaline lagoons separated from the Sea of Azov by spits and islands; they are ecologically important for specialised salt-tolerant flora and birds.
• Coastal spits and marshes: Coastal spits, salt marshes and small islands form nesting and feeding sites for migratory waterbirds and support steppe and halophytic plant communities characteristic of the northern Azov littoral.
