Łazienki Park
Park Royal park in Warsaw with classical palaces and gardens
A large public park in Warsaw centered on the Palace on the Isle, landscaped gardens and neoclassical monuments; visitors come for riverside walks, summer Chopin concerts and 18th‑century palace architecture.
Łazienki Park is a historic public park and palace complex in central Warsaw, Poland, commonly known as Łazienki Królewskie. The site covers an extensive landscaped area and is one of the city’s main green spaces.
The grounds contain several built monuments and waterside features centred on an artificial island palace, tree-lined avenues and formal lawns. Highlights include the island palace, a classical open-air amphitheatre, small royal pavilions and a well-known bronze Chopin monument where regular outdoor concerts are held from late spring to summer.
The estate was significantly developed in the late 18th century under King Stanisław II Augustus, who transformed earlier bath gardens into a royal park with palaces and pavilions. Buildings were designed and remodelled by architects active in Warsaw during that period and the complex later became public in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The park sits in central Warsaw along the Royal Route, between the Ujazdów and Mokotów districts and near Belweder Palace. It is within city limits and easily reached from Warsaw Old Town and nearby tram and bus stops.
- Size: Covers roughly 76 hectares of gardens, lakes and historic buildings in central Warsaw and is commonly called Łazienki Królewskie.
- Chopin concerts: Weekly outdoor piano concerts at the Chopin Monument run during the warmer months, typically on Sundays and draw large crowds.
- Wildlife: Peacocks and other park wildlife roam freely, especially near the Palace on the Isle and the park's wooded paths.
What to See #
- Palace on the Isle: 18th-century neoclassical palace set on an artificial island; rebuilt and expanded during the reign of King Stanisław II Augustus and forms the centrepiece of the park.
- Amphitheatre: Open-air classical-style theatre built near a lake, modelled on Ancient Roman theatres and used for seasonal performances and events.
- Myślewicki Palace: Small neoclassical palace located to the east of the main lake, originally serving as a residential pavilion within the royal gardens.
- Chopin Monument: Bronze monument to the composer installed on a lawn that hosts free outdoor piano concerts most Sundays from late spring through summer.
