Baku & Absheron Peninsula

September often feels like early autumn: warm, drier days and cooler nights invite long walks along the Boulevard and into the old town. Sea temperatures remain comfortable for swimming, and the crowds thin as schools resume. This is a great month for outdoor dining and exploring Gobustan’s petroglyphs and mud volcanoes with more stable weather; bring a sweater for coastal evenings and a camera for clearer skies.

Caspian Lowlands & Shirvan Plain (Aran)

By September the plain begins to cool and the harvest season livens rural markets across the Shirvan: grapes, melons and apricot trade increases. Days are pleasantly warm and evenings fresher, making it a good month for drives to Göyçay and small-town bazaars. Expect fewer insects than in midsummer and pack a light jacket for cooler nights.

Lankaran Lowlands & Talysh Foothills

September brings more comfortable humidity and drier, clearer days that make forest and coastal exploration pleasant - daytime temperatures ease from the highs of summer. Migratory birds again funnel along the shore and the region’s tea gardens are quieter after the peak harvest. This month is one of the best to visit Lankaran for hiking and beach time together: bring a light rain jacket for occasional showers and a sweater for cool morning fog.

Greater Caucasus & Mountain Resorts (Quba, Gabala, Shamakhi, Sheki)

September cools the valleys and brings crisp mornings to higher altitudes - a favorite month for trekking when the air clears and visibility improves. Harvest activity in mountain orchards and vineyards adds local color, and cultural sites in Sheki are enjoyable without midsummer crowds. Pack a range of layers for variable conditions and expect excellent photographic light as autumn colors begin to appear in the upper slopes.

Lesser Caucasus & Western Highlands (Ganja, Göygöl, Naftalan)

September is one of the best months to visit: temperatures fall to comfortable levels, vineyards enter harvest mode, and hiking conditions are excellent with clearer skies. Göygöl’s reflection lakes and forest trails are at their best for photography, and cultural attractions see fewer tourists than in summer. Pack a mix of layers for crisp mornings and warm afternoons, and consider joining harvest events where possible.

Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic

September is pleasantly cooler with crisp mornings and mild afternoons, making it a great month for sightseeing and hikes in the mountains around Ordubad. The harvest season is evident in village life and small-town hospitality is at its best with fresh produce. Pack a light jacket for early mornings and evenings and enjoy clearer skies and quieter roads as the high summer rush fades.
