Ayu-Dag is a prominent coastal massif on the southern coast of the Crimean peninsula, often called “Bear Mountain”. It is a single rocky headland that rises sharply from the sea and is a distinctive feature of the region.
Hikers and beachgoers come for short coastal walks, viewpoints and coastal scenery rather than long alpine routes. The summit ridge and lower slopes offer panoramic views of the Black Sea and nearby coastal towns.
The massif has long appeared in local place names and legends and has been part of regional protected-area designations; it has also been used historically as a defensive and navigational landmark for coastal settlements. Over time the area around the mountain developed into tourist resorts and small towns that use the mountain as a visual focal point.
