How to Get to Avren Plateau #
The plateau lies roughly 20-35 km southwest of Varna city. From Varna take the E87 south briefly then follow regional roads 29/29K toward the village of Avren; small local roads branch off to village centers and trailheads. A car is the most practical option; there are some limited bus services from Varna to Avren village (check local timetables). Once in the villages, many of the best walks begin at the village square or cemetery and follow signed rural lanes.
Tips for Visiting Avren Plateau #
- Drive up early in spring to catch the wild orchids and the white blanket of cherry plum blossoms - parking is easier before 9am.
- Bring a map or GPS; the plateau is a patchwork of private plots and public tracks - some lanes look like driveways.
- Watch for summer thunderstorms: the limestone scree can become treacherous after heavy rain; stick to the marked trails.
