St. Peter's Church

St. Peter’s Church (Peterskirche) is a Baroque parish church in Vienna’s Innere Stadt, sited on Petersplatz near the city’s main shopping streets. The present building is an 18th-century Baroque reconstruction on the site of an earlier medieval church.

The interior is richly decorated in Baroque style with frescoes, stucco work, and a prominent dome that dominates the small square outside. The church is active as a parish and hosts regular masses and occasional concerts.

The current Baroque building was erected in the early 18th century after earlier structures on the site; it reflects the period’s architectural and decorative styles and has been preserved as an urban Baroque landmark. The site remains an architecturally significant element of Vienna’s historic core.

The church is located in central Vienna’s Innere Stadt district, adjacent to major pedestrian thoroughfares and a short walk from other central landmarks.
