Auditorio de Tenerife
Theater Iconic modern concert hall in Santa Cruz
On Santa Cruz de Tenerife’s waterfront, Santiago Calatrava’s Auditorio de Tenerife draws visitors for its white, sculptural roofline, evening concerts, opera and cultural festivals, plus easy access to the harbor promenade and nearby museums.
The Auditorio de Tenerife is a concert hall and cultural building on the seafront of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the Canary Islands, designed by Santiago Calatrava and opened in 2003. It is known for its dramatic, curving white concrete roof and sculptural silhouette.
The main auditorium and supporting performance spaces stage orchestral concerts, contemporary music and cultural events; the sweeping exterior form and sloped terraces are major photographic draws. The building sits on a coastal plaza and is highly visible from the waterfront and nearby promenades.
Designed by Santiago Calatrava, the auditorium was completed and inaugurated in 2003 as a landmark cultural venue for Tenerife and the Canary Islands, intended to host a wide range of performing arts and civic events.
The auditorium stands on the seafront of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and is accessible on foot from the city center and harbour area, forming a focal point on the island capital’s waterfront.
- Viewing point: The building is best viewed from the seafront promenade and from the adjacent plaza, where the sweeping roofline reads clearly against the sky.
- Evening visits: Evening events and concerts showcase the interior acoustics and the exterior is often floodlit after dark, making night photography a good option.
