Atuntaqui (Imbabura Province) is best reached by road from Quito's Mariscal Sucre Airport (UIO). Frequent interprovincial buses to Ibarra plus short local connections make ground transfer straightforward.
Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO): Atuntaqui is usually reached via Quito’s Mariscal Sucre Airport. From UIO you can take an interprovincial bus from Quito’s Carcelén or Quitumbe terminals toward Ibarra; the bus ride to Ibarra takes about 2-2.5 hours and costs roughly USD 3-6. From Ibarra a short taxi or bus runs to Atuntaqui (20-30 minutes, about USD 1-4).
COTOPAXI / smaller airfields: There are no convenient commercial flights directly into Atuntaqui; road transfer from Quito is the common route.
Train: Ecuador does not have a national passenger rail network for regular point‑to‑point travel around Atuntaqui (heritage tourist trains exist on limited routes), so rail is not a practical option.
Bus: Interprovincial buses run from Quito (Carcelén or Quitumbe terminals) to Ibarra; from Ibarra take a local bus or taxi to Atuntaqui. Expect overall travel time UIO→Atuntaqui of about 2-3 hours by road depending on traffic.
