Arundel Island in the Solomon Islands’ New Georgia group lies amid reefs and channels; divers and small-boat travelers come for snorkeling, WWII history spots and local island communities.
Arundel Island is part of the New Georgia group in the Western Province of the Solomon Islands. The island is small, rugged and heavily vegetated, typical of islands in the archipelago.
Terrain is generally steep and forested with narrow coastal plains; there are no large urban centers on the island. It is visited mainly for its wartime history and natural environment rather than for developed tourism facilities.
During the World War II New Georgia campaign in 1943 the island was the scene of combat between Allied and Japanese forces, making it of interest to historians and visitors researching Pacific war sites. Remnants and local memory of those operations remain part of the island’s historical record.
Geographically the island lies among the New Georgia Islands in the central Solomons, within Western Province, and is north of the larger New Georgia Island group.

How to Get to Arundel Island #
