How to Get to Artik#

Artik (Shirak Province) is best reached via Shirak Airport (Gyumri) for a short road transfer, or from Yerevan by regional marshrutka/bus. Passenger rail options are limited and buses/marshrutkas are the practical public‑transport choice.

By Air

Shirak / Gyumri (LWN): Shirak Airport (near Gyumri) is the closest airport to Artik (approx 30-40 km). From LWN you can take a taxi to Artik (around 30-45 minutes; fares typically AMD 4,000-10,000 depending on vehicle and negotiation).

Yerevan (EVN / ZVARTNOTS): Zvartnots International (EVN) near Yerevan is the main international gateway. From Yerevan you can travel by marshrutka (minibus), bus or taxi to Artik; journeys typically take 3-4 hours by road and fares vary (marshrutka fares are low, taxis significantly more expensive).

By Train & Bus

Train: Armenia’s rail network is limited for passenger services and does not reliably connect all regional towns; there is no frequent direct passenger rail service between Yerevan/Gyumri and Artik for most travellers.

Bus / marshrutka: Marshrutkas and regional buses are the standard public‑transport option to Artik from Gyumri and Yerevan. From Gyumri the trip is about 30-60 minutes by marshrutka; from Yerevan expect 3-4 hours. Fares are low (marshrutkas typically cost a few hundred to a few thousand AMD depending on distance).

From Gyumri the ride is around 30-60 minutes; from Yerevan expect several hours depending on stops. Marshrutkas are inexpensive but can be crowded and operate on local timetables.
  • Taxi / shared taxi (AMD 4,000-10,000 (approx)) - Taxis and shared taxis offer faster, more comfortable transfers from airports or between cities. Prices are negotiable; Shirak Airport→Artik typically costs several thousand AMD. Agree fare in advance or use a reputable service.
  • Car (rental) (AMD 10,000-40,000/day (typical)) - Renting a car is an option if you prefer flexibility; roads between Gyumri and Artik are passable though signage and winter conditions can affect travel times. Local rental availability is better in Gyumri and Yerevan.
  • Local minibus / taxi within town (AMD 200-1,000) - Within Artik and nearby villages, local minibuses or short taxi rides handle most short trips; services can be informal so ask locally about timetables and stops.
  • Bicycle (AMD 0-2,000/day) - Bicycling is possible for short local distances but infrastructure is limited and roads may be busy; best used for leisure rides in suitable weather.
  • Walking - Artik’s centre is compact; walking covers most local sights and daily errands easily.
