Arsenal Stadium
Stadium Former Arsenal FC stadium with iconic Art Deco stands
Highbury, Arsenal’s former stadium, is noted for its Art Deco stands; football historians visit the redeveloped site and follow the club’s museum and matches at the Emirates.
Arsenal Stadium, commonly known as Highbury, was the home ground of Arsenal Football Club in north London from 1913 until 2006 and is noted for its interwar Art Deco East and West stands. The ground had a capacity in the tens of thousands during its final decades and was a prominent London football venue.
Following Arsenal’s move to the Emirates Stadium, the Highbury site was redeveloped for residential use while retaining the historic façades of the main stands and preserving the pitch area as communal gardens. Elements of the original stadium architecture were incorporated into the new development to retain the site’s character.
The stadium was originally built in 1913 and modified in the 1930s with distinctive Art Deco stands that became a defining visual feature before redevelopment.
Highbury sits in the Highbury district of north London within walking distance of local transport links and neighbourhood amenities.
