Skiers use an extensive lift network and prepared pistes on the mountain in winter, while hikers and mountain bikers use marked trails and lift access in summer. The summit and ridge offer panoramic views across Åresjön and the surrounding Scandinavian mountains, with routes ranging from steep alpine climbs to family-friendly walks.
The mountain developed as a recreational area in the 20th century alongside Åre village and has hosted international alpine competitions; modern lift infrastructure links village base areas to the summit and mid-station terrain.
Åreskutan lies immediately above the village of Åre in Jämtland County in central-northern Sweden and is the dominant feature of the local landscape.
