Archipelago National Park
Park Finnish national park of thousands of Baltic islands
Spread across thousands of islands in the Archipelago Sea, Finland’s Archipelago National Park offers sailing, island-hopping, kayaking and seabird watching. Ferries link cycling routes and small harbours, attracting boat-based day trips and multiday cruises.
Archipelago National Park is a protected area in Southwest Finland that conserves parts of the Archipelago Sea coastal landscape and its thousands of islets, skerries and small islands. The park protects both marine and island habitats and traditional coastal settlement patterns.
The park offers a mosaic of narrow channels, wooded islets and exposed skerries suited to boating, sea-kayaking and island-hopping trips; many small islands have marked landing sites and basic facilities. Birdwatching, seal spotting and coastal hiking on designated paths are common activities during the ice-free months.
The park was created to protect the unique biodiversity and cultural landscape of the Archipelago Sea and is managed under Finland’s national park system. Management focuses on preserving habitats for seabirds, seals and coastal flora while accommodating recreational boating and traditional coastal livelihoods.
The park lies in the Archipelago Sea off the southwest coast of Finland, between the city of Turku and the Åland Islands. It is administered from regional centers in Southwest Finland and is accessible by boat from mainland harbors.
- Best time and access: best visited in summer by boat, kayak or island-hopping ferries when most services operate and sea conditions are calmer
