A small island group off Ajaccio on Corsica’s west coast, known for red granite rock, a lighthouse and boat trips that focus on coastal scenery and evening light.
The Archipel des Sanguinaires is a small group of rocky islands off the west coast of Corsica at the entrance to the Gulf of Ajaccio. The islands are known for their dark red porphyry rock which gives them a distinctive appearance.
Boat trips from Ajaccio commonly visit the islands for short excursions, wildlife observation and coastal scenery; the islands and nearby headlands are popular viewpoints for evening light. The shoreline is rugged and the islands are largely natural rather than developed, offering dramatic sea-and-rock landscapes.
The islands have long served as navigation markers for vessels entering the Gulf of Ajaccio and have featured in local maritime use; they are part of the coastal landscape of Ajaccio rather than inhabited settlements.
Located off the coast of Ajaccio in Corsica, the archipelago lies at the western approach to the gulf and is visible from the Ajaccio shoreline.
