Historical Site Prehistoric archaeological site with early human fossils
Atapuerca’s cave system north of Burgos yields long archaeological sequences and early human fossils; visitors come for guided site tours, the interpretation centre and exhibitions central to Pleistocene human research in Europe.
The Archaeological Site of Atapuerca is a complex of karstic caves and deposits near Burgos in northern Spain that has yielded key hominin fossils and stone-tool assemblages spanning more than one million years.
