Aquidneck Island is an island in Narragansett Bay in the U.S. state of Rhode Island and contains the city of Newport. It is the largest island in Narragansett Bay and is the population and cultural center of the bay islands.
The island contains the city of Newport, noted for its 18th- and 19th-century architecture and Gilded Age mansions, alongside seaside towns and public beaches. Recreational boating, coastal drives, and historic sites draw visitors to its three principal municipalities: Newport, Middletown, and Portsmouth.

From Providence the drive to Newport on Aquidneck Island is typically about 30-45 minutes by car (roughly 30-40 km) depending on route and traffic, following I‑95/I‑195 east and US‑1/RI‑138 toward the island.
Public transport: Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) runs seasonal and year‑round bus services connecting Providence and other mainland points with Newport and towns on Aquidneck Island; once on the island local buses, taxis and walking cover short distances between towns and sights.
