Designed by architect Bruce Dellit in an Art Deco idiom with major sculptural work by Rayner Hoff, the memorial was completed and officially opened in the 1930s as a national monument to the Anzac legacy. It has remained an active site of remembrance and has undergone conservation work to preserve its fabric and artworks.
