How to Get to Andong
Andong is easiest reached by intercity bus or regional train rather than direct flights; the closest airports are Daegu International Airport (TAE) and, for international arrivals, Incheon (ICN). The city's rail link (Andong Station) and the Andong Intercity Bus Terminal connect it to Seoul and Daegu with regular services.
Incheon International Airport (ICN): From Incheon to Andong you usually transfer into Seoul first. Take the AREX to Seoul Station (about 43 minutes, ₩9,500) or an airport limousine to Dong Seoul Bus Terminal, then an express intercity bus to Andong Intercity Bus Terminal (about 3.5-4.5 hours by bus, typical fare ₩15,000-₩22,000). An alternative is AREX + KTX to Dongdaegu and a regional bus or taxi to Andong (see Train & Bus card).
Daegu International Airport (TAE): Daegu is the closest major airport. From Daegu you can reach Andong by intercity bus from Daegu Seobu/Daegu Intercity Bus Terminal (around 1-1.5 hours, typical fare ₩6,000-₩9,000) or by taxi (roughly 60-90 minutes, fares commonly ₩60,000-₩90,000 depending on vehicle and time of day). Direct shuttle services are limited, so check schedules in advance.
Train: Andong Station (안동역) sits on the Jungang Line and is served by regional trains (Mugunghwa/other regional services). Typical travel time from Seoul Cheongnyangni to Andong is about 3.5-4 hours; from Dongdaegu it’s about 1-1.5 hours. Fares vary by service and seat class but expect roughly ₩15,000-₩25,000 for longer regional journeys.
Bus: Long‑distance express and intercity buses serve Andong Intercity Bus Terminal (안동시외버스터미널). Buses run from Seoul (Dong Seoul/Express Bus terminals) in about 3.5-4.5 hours for roughly ₩15,000-₩22,000. From Daegu the intercity bus trip is about 1-1.5 hours and typically costs ₩6,000-₩9,000. Local city buses inside Andong charge around ₩1,200-₩1,500 per ride.
How to Get Around Andong
Andong is best reached by intercity bus or regional train; buses are frequent and drop you straight in town while trains offer a quieter, scenic alternative. Once in Andong, combine walking and local buses for the centre and use taxis or a rental car for rural attractions like Hahoe Folk Village.
- Intercity bus (₩6,000-₩22,000) - Intercity buses are the most frequent and convenient way to arrive and move between cities. Buses serve Andong Intercity Bus Terminal from Seoul, Daegu, Pohang and nearby towns; they're comfortable and drop you close to the centre. Book online for peak holidays (Chuseok/Seollal) and expect luggage space and fixed schedules.
- Train (Jungang Line / regional) (₩5,000-₩25,000) - Regional trains run to Andong Station on the Jungang Line; services include slower Mugunghwa/regional trains rather than KTX. Trains are comfortable for sightseers and avoid road traffic, but schedules are less frequent than buses. Good option from Cheongnyangni (Seoul) or Dongdaegu if you prefer rail travel.
- Local buses (₩1,200-₩1,500) - Andong's city buses link the station, bus terminal and tourist spots such as Hahoe Village and the old town. Fares are low (pay with T‑money) and routes cover most points of interest, but services can be infrequent on weekends and evenings-check timetables for rural lines.
- Taxi (₩3,800-₩10,000 (short trips) / longer rides higher) - Taxis are convenient for short hops or when you have luggage; drivers know tourist sites but English may be limited. Short fares in town are affordable, but cross‑city or airport taxis become expensive. Use Kakao T or have your destination written in Korean for smoother pickup.
- Car rental (₩40,000-₩80,000 per day) - Renting a car is very useful for exploring surrounding attractions (Hahoe Folk Village, Dosan Seowon) on your own schedule. Roads are good and parking is available at major sites, but driving in winter can be icy. Expect daily rental rates similar to other Korean regional centers-book in advance during holiday seasons.
- Walking - Andong's central area and historic quarters are compact and best explored on foot; Hahoe Folk Village and the riverside areas are pedestrian‑friendly. Walking is the simplest way to soak up the town's atmosphere and access many restaurants and museums.
