Öxarárfoss is a waterfall on the Öxará river located within Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park in southwestern Iceland. It is one of the park’s most visited natural features.
The waterfall drops where the river crosses a lava ledge, producing a photogenic cascade and a small plunge pool; paved paths and viewing areas nearby allow close access and photography. The site sits within the rift valley landscape that defines Þingvellir, with visible fissures and layered lava rock nearby.
The fall is a natural river feature formed where the Öxará crosses older lava flows; it now sits inside the protected area of Þingvellir National Park, which preserves the site’s geological and cultural significance.
Öxarárfoss lies inside Þingvellir National Park, roughly northeast of Reykjavík and commonly visited on day trips that circle the Golden Circle route.
