Aminidivi
Islands Northern subgroup of Lakshadweep coral atolls
The Aminidivi group in Lakshadweep features coral atolls, clear lagoons and fishing communities; snorkelling, canoeing and mosque architecture on small islands draw visitors.
Aminidivi is the northern subgroup of islands within the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, India. It forms one of the administrative and geographic divisions of the archipelago and consists of several small inhabited and uninhabited islets.
The islands are noted for shallow lagoons, fringing coral reefs and narrow sandy shores that support traditional fishing and small-scale coconut cultivation. Activities on and around the islands commonly include snorkeling, boat trips and visits to village settlements; services and facilities are limited compared with larger tourist hubs.
The islands have long-standing settlement by local communities and have been administered as part of Lakshadweep under Indian governance since the territory’s modern organization. Over time administration and transport links have developed to serve the resident population and seasonal visitors.
Geographically the group sits in the Arabian Sea off India’s southwest coast at about 11.38 N, 72.38 E. The islands lie within the Lakshadweep atoll chain and are separated from the Indian mainland by several hundred kilometres of ocean.
