Altos de Chavón is a constructed Mediterranean-style cultural village above the Chavón River in La Romana Province, Dominican Republic, created as a tourist and cultural complex in the 1970s. It reproduces the appearance of a 16th-century European village and functions as a center for arts, craft and events.
The complex is best known for its large open-air amphitheatre, which seats about 5,000 people and hosts concerts, festivals and cultural performances. The site also contains artisan workshops, galleries, boutiques and the small stone Church of St. Stanislaus, which is commonly used for ceremonies and weddings.
Altos de Chavón was developed as part of a broader resort and cultural initiative connected to the nearby Casa de Campo area. Over time it became home to an art and design school that maintains an affiliation with an international design program and runs courses and workshops on site.
The village perches on a hillside overlooking the Chavón River, within La Romana Province and a short drive from the city of La Romana and the Casa de Campo resort area.
