Alta Badia
Area Dolomites valley and renowned ski destination
A valley in the Dolomites, Alta Badia offers marked hiking routes in summer, extensive ski runs in winter, Ladin-language villages and mountain restaurants serving Tyrolean and Ladin fare.
Alta Badia is an alpine valley and ski region in the Dolomites of South Tyrol (Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol) centered on several Ladin-speaking mountain villages. It is a year-round destination for skiing in winter and hiking, climbing and mountain biking in summer.
Ski facilities link to the wider Dolomiti Superski lift network and Sella Ronda circuit; the area includes renowned downhill and giant slalom terrain, notably the World Cup Gran Risa slope. In summer the same lift network provides access to high trails, rifugi (mountain huts) and via ferrata routes.
Tourism infrastructure is concentrated in villages such as Corvara, La Villa, San Cassiano, Badia and Colfosco, which serve as bases for lifts, accommodation and mountain services. Local culture includes Ladin language and cuisine integrated into visitor facilities.
Alta Badia sits in the eastern Dolomites within South Tyrol, north-eastern Italy, with valley settlements clustered on both sides of the main mountain passes that form the Sella massif.
- Gran Risa World Cup slope: The Gran Risa slope in La Villa is a regular stop on the men's FIS Alpine Ski World Cup circuit for giant slalom events.
- Ski network and heritage status: Part of the Dolomiti Superski area and located inside the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage landscape, offering connected lift systems and ski passes across multiple valleys.
