The Allegany Indian Reservation is a territory of the Seneca Nation of Indians in western New York State, located in Cattaraugus County. It is one of the principal Seneca reservations in the region and includes residential communities and tribal facilities.
The reservation contains community centers, tribal government facilities and local businesses that serve residents. Public access varies by location because some areas are tribal lands and others overlap municipal land within and around Salamanca.
The lands were provided to the Seneca people through a sequence of treaties and agreements with the United States; governance and land status have evolved through 19th- and 20th-century legal and political developments. Tribal government administers services, community programs and land use on the reservation.
Geographically the reservation sits in southwestern New York near the city of Salamanca and lies along tributaries of the Allegheny/Allegany river system. The landscape is a mix of settled hamlets, forested hills and river valley lowlands.
