Alinda

Alinda is an ancient Carian city and archaeological site in Aydın Province, Turkey, with surviving Hellenistic and Roman-period remains. The site is known for its compact ruins that sit on a hill overlooking the surrounding plain.

The ruins include a hillside theater, a Roman-style agora, parts of city walls and an acropolis area, all concentrated within a walkable site that can be explored in a short visit. The theater and agora are among the most visited features.

Alinda was occupied and developed during the Hellenistic period and continued in the Roman era, serving as a regional urban centre in inland Caria. Over time the site declined and became an archaeological ruin that has been studied and visited in modern times.

The site sits near the modern district of Karpuzlu in Aydın Province, inland from the Aegean coast of western Turkey and located on a hill that overlooks agricultural lowlands.
