Ali Pasha Castle is a small early 19th-century fortress on a headland at Porto Palermo in Vlorë County, Albania. It is associated with the rule of Ali Pasha of Tepelena and is a recognizable coastal fortification on the Albanian Riviera.
The surviving structure is a compact coastal castle with sea-facing walls and a sheltered anchorage used historically for military purposes; visitors commonly inspect the battlements and quay. The site functions today as a historical attraction rather than an active military installation.
The castle was built or substantially rebuilt under the authority of Ali Pasha of Tepelena in the early 1800s and served as a local garrison and coastal defense point. Over time it fell out of military use and became a preserved historic site visited for its architecture and coastal setting.
The fortress occupies a small promontory in Porto Palermo bay on Albania’s southwestern coast, between the towns of Himarë and Vlorë along the Adriatic/Ionian shoreline.
- Setting: Perched on a small peninsula at Porto Palermo bay, the fortress offers panoramic views over the sheltered bay and the Ionian Sea.
