Algeti National Park is a protected natural area in the Kvemo Kartli region of Georgia that conserves mountain landscape and valley ecosystems associated with the Algeti River.
The park contains valley and montane terrain used for outdoor recreation such as hiking and nature observation, with forested slopes and open mountain habitats typical of the region. Trails and viewpoints provide access to the park’s main scenic areas.
Designated to protect the Algeti valley and surrounding natural habitats, the area has been managed to conserve local flora and fauna and to provide recreational opportunities for visitors.
Located in Kvemo Kartli in eastern Georgia, the park occupies a mountainous corridor in the southern outskirts of the Greater Caucasus foothills, south of Tbilisi.
How to Get to Algeti National Park #
Algeti National Park is about 40-50 km south of Tbilisi. From Tbilisi, drive along the S4 (Tbilisi-Marneuli) then follow regional roads toward Tetritsqaro and the park entrance; the trip by car takes roughly 1-1.5 hours. There is limited public transport: minibuses (marshrutkas) run to towns near the park from Didube or Ortachala stations in Tbilisi; from those towns a taxi or local driver is usually needed for the final stretch.
Tips for Visiting Algeti National Park #
- If hiking, bring sturdy footwear-paths can be steep and rocky and mobile phone reception is patchy in valleys.
- Visit in late April or May for blooming meadows and when the snowmelt feeds the Algeti River.
- Follow marked trails and register at the park office if planning multi-hour routes; shepherd dogs and grazing flocks are common-give them space.

Best in spring and autumn for comfortable hiking and good visibility; summers are warm but doable early/late in the day.
