How to Get to Álftanes

Álftanes is a small peninsula town just west of Reykjavík and is most easily reached via Reykjavík after arrival at Keflavík International Airport. There are no trains - travel relies on airport shuttles, Strætó buses and short taxi rides from Reykjavík.

By Air

Keflavík International Airport (KEF): Iceland’s main international airport near Reykjavík is the primary gateway for Álftanes. From KEF the Flybus shuttle to Reykjavík takes about 45-55 minutes to the city; fares are roughly 3,000-4,000 ISK (one-way). From Reykjavík a taxi or public bus reaches Álftanes in about 15-25 minutes.

Reykjavík Domestic Airport (RKV): RKV handles domestic flights and is inside Reykjavík; it’s about a 10-20 minute drive to Álftanes. There are no scheduled bus routes from RKV specifically to Álftanes, so a taxi (1,500-3,000 ISK) or a transfer via Reykjavík’s public bus network is typical.

By Train & Bus

Train: Iceland has no rail network.

Bus: Public buses (Strætó) connect Reykjavík with the Reykjanes peninsula and surrounding suburbs; routes that run along Reykjavík’s western suburbs will get you close to Álftanes.
