Alegranza is a small, uninhabited volcanic island in the Canary Islands, located north of Lanzarote in the Chinijo Archipelago. It is protected as part of the Chinijo Archipelago Natural Park and lies within the municipality that administratively links it to Lanzarote.
The island offers a stark volcanic landscape, cliffs and rocky shores used by seabirds, plus a historic lighthouse visible from the sea. There are no regular visitor facilities; visits are typically short, by private or chartered boat, and subject to park rules.
Historically the island has been sparsely used for fishing and occasional maritime navigation; permanent settlement has not been established in modern times. Infrastructure is limited to navigational aids and small structures related to the lighthouse and conservation work.
Alegranza sits in the Atlantic off the northeastern coast of Lanzarote, within the small group of islets that make up the Chinijo Archipelago. It is remote from inhabited islands and surrounded by open ocean and other uninhabited rocks and islets.
